Emmy Massey

Emmy

Emmy is a happy, social teen who lives in Washington State with her mom, dad, and younger brother. She was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD in 2015, and in 2019 we learned she had a de novo likely pathogenic SHANK2 mutation. Early on, Emmy’s biggest hurdles were speech, fine motor skills, and comprehension. We pursued every early intervention and therapy available to us. These included extensive speech therapy (which continues to this day), vision therapy, occupational therapy, equine therapy, diet modifications, and more.

Now well into her teen years, Emmy is thriving. She is in high school and takes life skills classes. She also participates in many activities, including cheer and unified sports. Emmy has to work ten times as hard as most of her peers to learn a new skill, and she does it all with joy and a smile on her face. She is a true social butterfly, and we lovingly call her our “sunshine girl” because she spreads light and love wherever she goes. Emmy loves being out in the community—shopping, dining out, and staying connected. At home, her favorite activities include jigsaw puzzles, diamond art, Disney movies, and FaceTiming with friends.
